Shimla, July 31: Responding to a question raised in the Lok Sabha by BJP MP from Shimla and former Himachal Pradesh BJP president Suresh Kumar Kashyap, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav informed that the Centre is continuously reviewing the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), health insurance coverage, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The minister said that as of June 30, 2026, a total of 37,413 hospitals have been empanelled under AB-PMJAY across the country, including 14,761 added during the last three years. During the same period, 7.14 crore hospital admissions were authorized under the scheme.
In the Shimla parliamentary constituency, covering Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts, 57,395 Ayushman cards were issued over the last three years, while 64,666 hospital admissions were approved. Eligible beneficiaries received cashless treatment worth ₹102.90 crore under the scheme.
District-wise, Shimla recorded 17,920 Ayushman cards and 22,785 treatments, Solan registered 14,807 cards and 21,299 treatments, while Sirmaur accounted for 24,668 cards and 20,582 treatments.
The minister further informed that 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational across India under the National Health Mission, including 2,845 in Himachal Pradesh. Within the Shimla parliamentary constituency, 343 centres are functioning in Shimla district, 203 in Solan and 178 in Sirmaur, providing comprehensive primary healthcare services.
On the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, the minister said that as of July 27, 2026, over 95.78 crore ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) IDs had been created nationwide, while 106.99 crore health records had been digitally linked. Additionally, 10.20 lakh healthcare professionals and 5.38 lakh health institutions have been verified on the digital platform.
The minister also informed the House that according to the National Health Accounts Estimates (2022–23), out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure has declined significantly from 62.6% in 2014–15 to 43.4% in 2022–23, largely due to the expansion of public health insurance schemes such as Ayushman Bharat.
