BJP leaders congratulate Anurag Singh Thakur on second Sansad Ratna honour

Hamirpur, September 10, 2026: BJP leaders and workers in Hamirpur have congratulated Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur on being conferred the prestigious Sansad Ratna Award for the second time, describing the recognition as a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh and the people of Hamirpur.
District BJP president Rakesh Thakur, MLAs Inderdutt Lakhanpal and Ashish Sharma, senior state spokesperson and former Sujanpur MLA Rajinder Singh Rana, former MLAs Vijay Agnihotri, Dr Anil Dhiman and Kamlesh Kumari, Zila Parishad president Anita Devi, besides party office-bearers Ajay Rintu Sharma, Ajmer Thakur, Deshraj Sharma, Harish Sharma, Vinod Thakur Chhamb and Rajkumari Thakur, along with a large number of party workers, extended their congratulations to Anurag Singh Thakur on the achievement.
The leaders said the honour reflected Thakur’s consistent parliamentary performance, active participation in parliamentary proceedings and his efforts to raise issues of public importance. They said the recognition had brought laurels not only to Hamirpur but also to Himachal Pradesh at the national level.
The Sansad Ratna Awards, instituted in 2010 following a suggestion by former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, recognise outstanding parliamentary performance. The selection is based on objective parameters relating to the functioning of MPs and parliamentary committees, including participation in debates, questions raised, private members’ bills and the quality and performance of parliamentary committee work and reports.
Thakur was earlier conferred the Sansad Ratna Award in 2019 during the 16th Lok Sabha in the individual category. He received the Jury Committee Special Award in recognition of his parliamentary performance and contribution. He was among the first BJP MPs to receive the honour, marking his individual contribution to parliamentary functioning.
In 2026, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel, chaired by Anurag Singh Thakur, has been selected for the Sansad Ratna Award. The committee has been recognised for its parliamentary work, detailed examination of issues concerning the sector and the quality of its original reports. It is among the four parliamentary committees selected for the award this year.
The BJP leaders said the two recognitions carry a distinct significance — the 2019 award recognised Anurag Singh Thakur’s individual parliamentary performance, while the 2026 honour recognises the work of the parliamentary committee under his chairmanship. They said the distinction demonstrated his sustained commitment to parliamentary work and his ability to contribute effectively both as a parliamentarian and as chairman of a key parliamentary committee.
They further said Thakur’s parliamentary journey had remained a source of pride for Hamirpur and Himachal Pradesh. Having been elected to the Lok Sabha for five consecutive terms, he had consistently raised issues concerning the state and the nation and discharged his parliamentary responsibilities with commitment and active participation.
The BJP leaders expressed confidence that Anurag Singh Thakur would continue to raise issues concerning Himachal Pradesh and the country with the same commitment and vigour in the years ahead.
