State Govt Denying Himachalis Benefits of PM Modi’s Ayushman Bharat, Burdening People with Financial Mismanagement: Anurag

Himachal Govt’s ₹65 Crore Pending Dues Affecting AIIMS Bilaspur, Other Hospitals: Anurag Thakur Raises Issue

Hamirpur, September 11, 2026: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur today attended the Governing Body and Institutional Body meetings of AIIMS Bilaspur through video conference, where he raised the issue of pending payments by the Himachal Pradesh Government under Himcare and Ayushman Bharat.

The outstanding dues, amounting to approximately ₹65 crore, are putting financial pressure on AIIMS Bilaspur and affecting its smooth functioning. Thakur expressed concern that despite the National Health Authority (NHA) having released the eligible funds and the full funds having been made available to the Himachal Pradesh Health Department by the Union Government, the state government has failed to distribute the funds and clear the pending payments to healthcare institutions.

Thakur said the failure to clear health-related dues was not merely an institutional or financial issue but one that directly affected the people of Himachal Pradesh. He said Ayushman Bharat, the flagship health assurance initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was designed to ensure that no poor or vulnerable citizen was denied treatment due to lack of money.

“While the Union Government is making the required resources available, the state government is failing to pass on the funds and clear its liabilities. This is depriving Himachalis of the benefits of a central welfare programme and creating unnecessary difficulties for patients, hospitals and healthcare institutions,” Thakur said.

He said the Congress government’s financial mismanagement was “breaking the back of the common Himachali”, with mounting liabilities affecting not only AIIMS Bilaspur but also the delivery of essential healthcare services across the state.

Thakur demanded that the state government immediately clear the pending dues of around ₹65 crore under Himcare and Ayushman Bharat, ensure uninterrupted treatment under the schemes and make timely payments to all healthcare institutions.

He said AIIMS Bilaspur was a premier healthcare institution serving people across Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring regions, and its financial and operational stability could not be compromised because of delays in meeting state government obligations.
