Dreams of Himachal’s Students in Delhi Must Be Bigger Than the Mountains They Come From: Anurag Singh Thakur

Himachal’s aspirational youth are the state’s greatest strength – Anurag Singh Thakur
Says: Patriotism in the heart and the Himachali cap on the head define Devbhoomi Himachal; youth must stay rooted while contributing to a Viksit Bharat and Viksit Himachal
Hamirpur/New Delhi, September 14, 2026: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur on Monday interacted with students at the prestigious Ramjas College, University of Delhi, at Raunkein 3.0″, organised by the Delhi Himachal Students Association. He called upon Himachali students pursuing education and preparing for competitive examinations in Delhi to remain connected with their roots and contribute actively to the building of a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Himachal.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that while Himachal may be a small state geographically, its identity and contribution to the nation are immense. The land has given the country soldiers, sportspersons, teachers, scientists and civil servants, while making its mark across political, social and other spheres of national life.
He said Himachal’s presence in Delhi is not new. For decades, young people from the state have been coming to the national capital for higher education, competitive examinations and career opportunities. He urged Himachali youth living in Delhi to look beyond their individual careers and work towards strengthening Himachal’s identity and creating new opportunities for the state wherever they are.
Anurag Singh Thakur said the dreams of young people coming from the small hills must be enormous. With talent, hard work and determination, Himachal’s youth can establish their identity across the country and the world. He said, patriotism in the heart and the Himachali cap on the head are the defining identity of Devbhoomi Himachal.
He said the journey towards a Viksit Bharat must also pass through Himachal. This requires developed villages, new opportunities for youth, stronger farmers and horticulturists, and greater employment opportunities for local communities through tourism. He noted that around 65 per cent of India’s population is below the age of 35, making young people the country’s greatest strength, with Himachal’s youth playing an important part in this national demographic dividend.
Anurag Singh Thakur said Himachal must move beyond being viewed only through the prism of tourism and government jobs. The goal should be to build a new Himachal where opportunities emerge across education, technology, startups, sports, tourism, agriculture, innovation and entrepreneurship.
He said Himachal’s youth have no shortage of talent; what they need is the right direction, the right platform and the right opportunities to realise their potential. This is why the youth of Himachal are the strongest foundation of an aspirational Himachal, he said.
