Hamirpur, September 17, 2026:
Hamirpur Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur today participated as the Chief Guest in a series of service, public welfare and awareness programmes organised at different locations across Hamirpur on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.
District BJP President Rakesh Thakur, Sadar MLA Ashish Sharma, former MLA Vijay Agnihotri, Dr Anil Dhiman, Kamlesh Kumari, District General Secretary Ajay Rintu Sharma, along with BJP state and district office-bearers, Mandal Presidents and a large number of party workers, were present on the occasion.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday should be observed not merely as a celebration but as an occasion for service, social responsibility and a renewed commitment towards the welfare of society.
He said that public service has remained central to Prime Minister Modi’s public life and that the best way to mark his birthday is by reaching out to people, serving society and creating awareness on issues that directly affect citizens.
_Tree Plantation and Interaction with Senior Citizens at Old-Age Home_
The day began at 9:00 AM with a visit to the old-age home at Ganda Naun, Hamirpur, where Anurag Singh Thakur interacted with the elderly residents and participated in a tree plantation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that senior citizens are an invaluable repository of experience, wisdom and family values. Society has a collective responsibility to ensure that elderly people feel respected, cared for and connected with the community.
He said, “A tree planted today is a promise to the future. It represents our responsibility towards the environment and towards generations yet to come.”
He added that celebrating the Prime Minister’s birthday through service-oriented activities sends the message that public life must remain connected with society and that environmental protection and care for senior citizens are shared responsibilities.
_Road Safety Awareness, Free Health Camp and Felicitation of Sanitation Warriors_
At 10:00 AM, Anurag Singh Thakur attended a road-safety awareness camp, free health check-up camp and felicitation ceremony for sanitation workers at Rani Lakshmibai Park near the Bus Stand, Hamirpur.
Sanitation workers were presented with safety kits comprising sanitation gloves, safety jackets and sanitizers, while taxi drivers were provided medical kits. Taxi drivers were also administered a pledge to follow road-safety rules.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that the cleanliness of towns and villages depends substantially on the dedicated work of sanitation workers, who perform their duties every day to keep public spaces clean and healthy.
“Our sanitation workers are frontline contributors to a clean and healthy society. Their dignity, safety and well-being must remain our collective responsibility,” he said.
He also emphasised that road safety requires responsible behaviour from every road user. Taxi drivers, he said, play an important role in transporting citizens safely and therefore adherence to traffic rules is essential.
He urged drivers to follow speed limits, traffic signals, seat-belt requirements and other safety norms.
“A moment of caution can save a life, while a moment of negligence can change an entire family’s future. Road safety is therefore not merely a traffic requirement; it is a responsibility towards human life,” he said.
_Assistive Devices Distributed to Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens_
At 11:30 AM, Anurag Singh Thakur participated in an assistive-device and artificial-limb distribution programme at Bachat Bhawan, Hamirpur, for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
He said that empowering persons with disabilities is an important component of inclusive development and that assistive devices can provide much more than physical support.
“An assistive device can restore mobility, strengthen confidence and open new possibilities for education, employment and independent living. The objective must be to ensure that every individual gets the opportunity to live with dignity and participate fully in society,” he said.
He added that the distribution of artificial limbs and assistive devices on the Prime Minister’s birthday represents a commitment towards an inclusive society where the welfare of every section is given importance.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and their families and said that government institutions, voluntary organisations and society must work together to make accessibility and dignity a reality for every person with a disability and every senior citizen.

At 2:00 PM, Anurag Singh Thakur participated in a career counselling programme, plastic-free awareness campaign and Nasha Mukt Bharat awareness programme with students at Aspire Continental School near Gandhi Chowk, Hamirpur.
Interacting with students, he said that young people are central to India’s future and that choosing the right career requires students to understand their interests, abilities and aspirations.
He encouraged students to set clear goals, maintain discipline, continuously upgrade their skills and make constructive use of technology and digital resources.
On the issue of drug abuse, he said: “Drugs do not damage only an individual’s health and future; their impact reaches the entire family and society. Preventing drug abuse requires a united effort by parents, schools, communities and every responsible citizen.”
The students were administered a pledge to remain away from drugs and to contribute towards a clean and healthy society. Students also presented a street-play-style awareness performance highlighting the harmful consequences of drug abuse and spreading the message of a drug-free society.
On plastic pollution, Anurag Singh Thakur urged students to reduce dependence on single-use plastic, dispose of waste responsibly and make2 cleanliness a part of their daily lives.
He said, “When a child carries the message of cleanliness and a drug-free life from school to home, the message reaches an entire family and gradually the wider community.”
_Public Interaction and Grievance Redressal at Circuit House_
At 4:00 PM, Anurag Singh Thakur held a public interaction at the Circuit House, Hamirpur, where he met people from different parts of the constituency and listened to their concerns.
He said that being a public representative means remaining accessible to the people and understanding their concerns at the ground level.
“Our responsibility as public representatives does not end in Parliament. It begins with listening to the people, understanding their concerns and continuously working for solutions,” he said.
He listened to various issues raised by the public and discussed appropriate follow-up action on matters requiring intervention by concerned departments and authorities.
