Shimla, October 24:
Rajni Patil, AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh, has described the INDIA alliance’s proposed “Save the Nation, Save the Vote” rally, scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, as a major event. She said more than one million people from across the country were expected to participate in the rally.
Addressing a press conference at the Himachal Pradesh Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, on Thursday, in the presence of INDIA alliance leaders, Patil said around 15,000 people from Himachal Pradesh would travel to Delhi to participate in the rally.
She said the INDIA alliance had come together to protect democracy and the Constitution. Alleging that the Modi-led Central government was attempting to suppress the movement, she asserted that such efforts would not succeed.
Patil accused the BJP of undermining democratic institutions in collusion with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. She alleged that 130 million citizens had been deprived of their constitutional right to vote and termed the situation unfortunate.
She said senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was leading a major campaign to safeguard the country and that the INDIA alliance’s support had strengthened the movement. Patil emphasised that the struggle was not confined to any single political party but was aimed at protecting the nation, the Constitution and democracy, requiring collective efforts.
Former Punjab minister and AICC-appointed observer Rao Dan Singh said that just as freedom fighters had united to secure the country’s independence, people must now come forward to protect democracy and the Constitution.
He appealed to people to participate in large numbers in the November 1 rally in New Delhi.
