Union government is progressively promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital platforms in cooperatives. Technology-driven teaching pedagogy and learning platforms are also being adopted at cooperative training institutions like Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM) Chandigarh in Punjab,” Union Minister for Cooperation, Amit Shah, informed Parliament informed in reply to a question asked by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu during the on-going Monsoon Session of the House.
In his question, MP Sandhu had asked the Union Ministry of Cooperation whether AI and digital platforms are being promoted in cooperative institutions and educational systems. He had also sought details of the steps taken to integrate technology-driven teaching pedagogy and learning platforms in Punjab and support being provided for the capacity building programmes for teachers and cooperative professionals.
Responding to MP Sandhu’s question, Union Minister Amit Shah in a written reply said “AI and digital platforms are getting progressively promoted across cooperative training institutions through academic, training and institutional initiatives. Technology-driven teaching pedagogy and learning platforms are being adopted by cooperative training institutions such as RICM, Chandigarh in Punjab,”.
“The measures (to promote AI and digital platforms in cooperatives) include use of smart classrooms with interactive digital boards, projectors and ICT-enabled teaching tools, adoption of blended learning through e-content, online classes and Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training of faculty in ICT tools and digital pedagogy. Digital learning initiatives are also reviewed periodically for their effective utilization,” the Union Minister added.
On the Union government support for the capacity building programmes for teachers and cooperative professionals, Amit Shah said the capacity building for teachers and cooperative professionals is being supported through Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), refresher courses, seminars, workshops, webinars and other professional development programmes. The programmes cover areas such as cooperative management, banking and finance, governance, digital banking, digital transformation and other emerging areas of the cooperative sector.
Lauding the initiatives for promotion of AI and digital platforms in cooperatives, MP Sandhu said, “India’s cooperative sector is the largest in the world and has played pivotal role in the success of Green Revolution and White Revolution to transform India from a food and milk-scarce nation into a global agricultural powerhouse. Now through the use of emerging technologies like AI and digital platforms for innovation, financial inclusion, digital transformation, sustainable agriculture, better market access for farmers and global competitiveness of cooperative products, cooperative sector is being steering toward a ‘2.0 Revolution’. I am sure these initiatives for promotion of AI and digital platforms in cooperatives will help in providing farmers with enhanced or additional income—aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of doubling their earnings,”.
