Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, commenced its Deekshaarambh 2026 Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The inaugural session marked the beginning of an important academic journey for the fresh entrants and introduced them to the ethos, values, and academic culture of the University.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Dean Academic Affairs, who warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and their parents to the HPNLU family. He emphasized the significance of the orientation programme in facilitating a smooth transition into university life and encouraged students to actively engage with the diverse academic and co-curricular opportunities available at the University.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena congratulated the students on securing admission to HPNLU and introduced them to the University’s vision, academic framework, and institutional achievements. She emphasized that obtaining a law degree requires dedication, discipline, and extensive reading. Encouraging students to cultivate strong reading habits and intellectual curiosity, she highlighted that legal education is not confined to classrooms alone but requires continuous engagement with legal developments, literature, and contemporary issues. She also familiarized the students with the University’s academic ecosystem, research opportunities, centres of excellence, and various student-driven initiatives.
Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, Vice Chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, in his inspiring address, described the newly admitted students as saplings who would grow and bear fruit through sustained learning and effort during their five-year academic journey. He reminded students of their responsibility towards the nation and emphasized their role in contributing to India’s growing presence in the global community. Stressing the importance of legal education, he observed that law forms the foundation of a just, democratic, and civilized society. He further remarked that law, at its core, is an embodiment of common sense applied through reason, fairness, and justice.
The inaugural session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Alok Kumar, Registrar, HPNLU, who expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, distinguished speakers, faculty members, staff, students, and parents for their participation and support.
Following the inaugural session, an Office Bearers’ Interaction Session was held with the parents, wherein the Dean (Academic Affairs), Dean (Student Welfare), and Controller of Examinations briefed them about the University’s academic framework, student welfare initiatives, and examination system.
Simultaneously, the newly admitted students participated in a guided library and campus visit, familiarizing themselves with the University’s academic resources and facilities.
Post lunch, interactive sessions were conducted by various Centres, Cells, and Committees of the University, introducing students to the diverse academic, professional, co-curricular, and student engagement opportunities available at HPNLU. The sessions enabled the students to gain a better understanding of the vibrant institutional ecosystem and opportunities for holistic development.
The Deekshaarambh Programme shall culminate with its Valedictory Session on 25 July 2026, in the august presence of Hon’ble Justice Bipin Chander Negi, Judge, Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Mr. Peeyush Verma, Learned Senior Advocate, Himachal Pradesh High Court. The valedictory session is expected to provide the newly admitted students with valuable insights into the legal profession, judicial institutions, and the responsibilities that accompany the study and practice of law.
