People Have Given Their Verdict Against the Congress Government; BJP to Launch Statewide Campaign Against Broken Guarantees, Institutional Closures and Anti-People Policies
Shimla: Bharatiya Janata Party Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur jointly announced that the BJP will launch a comprehensive statewide mass agitation against the anti-people policies, alleged corruption, administrative failures and unfulfilled promises of the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The decision was taken during a special meeting of the party’s senior leadership at the BJP State Headquarters, Deep Kamal, Shimla.
The two leaders said the people of Himachal Pradesh have already delivered a clear political verdict against the Congress government through the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Body elections. They asserted that despite attempts to undermine the public mandate, the BJP emerged with overwhelming public support, reflecting the growing dissatisfaction of the people with the present government. They said the responsibility of taking this public mandate to its logical conclusion now rests with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Dr. Rajeev Bindal said the statewide movement will begin in August from the Mandal level and will subsequently expand to Assembly constituencies, district headquarters and finally the state level. He said BJP workers will reach every village and every section of society to expose what he described as the Congress government’s anti-people decisions and governance failures.
The leaders alleged that during its nearly four-year tenure, the Congress government has brought development to a standstill by shutting down schools, colleges, Primary Health Centres, government offices, veterinary institutions and several public welfare facilities across the state. They said development projects initiated during the previous BJP government, despite having budgetary provisions, have either been halted or abandoned, adversely affecting people across Himachal Pradesh.
They further stated that deteriorating roads, rising electricity and water bills, increasing financial burdens on the public, unemployment and the failure to fulfil election promises have created widespread public resentment. They alleged that while the Congress had sought votes on the basis of ten guarantees, it had instead deceived the people through repeated false assurances after assuming office.
Dr. Bindal and Jairam Thakur said the BJP’s agitation will focus on the concerns of youth, women, farmers, orchardists, employees and every section of society that, according to them, has been neglected by the present government. They alleged that corruption has crossed all limits, additional taxes have burdened the common people, and law and order has weakened during the Congress government’s tenure.
They said the movement would not be symbolic but a sustained democratic campaign. Beginning at the Mandal level, it will gradually extend to every Assembly constituency and district, where BJP leaders and workers will interact directly with the public, expose what they described as the government’s false guarantees, institutional closures, stalled development works and anti-people decisions, and mobilise public opinion across the state.
Jairam Thakur said the BJP would formally begin its public outreach even before the upcoming Assembly session by visiting locations where development projects initiated by the previous BJP government had been discontinued or stalled. He said the people have already initiated the process of political change through the local body elections, and the BJP is committed to carrying that mandate forward.
Responding to a question regarding the Congress party’s proposed candle march, Jairam Thakur said it was the party’s own programme and they were free to organise it. However, he said incidents such as examination paper leaks have been taken very seriously by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India, which is committed to taking the strictest possible action against those responsible. He accused the Congress of attempting to exploit the emotions of young people for political purposes instead of allowing the legal process to take its course.
Concluding the joint statement, Dr. Rajeev Bindal and Jairam Thakur reaffirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s mass agitation would continue until the people of Himachal Pradesh succeed in democratically removing what they described as the anti-people and corrupt Congress government from power. They said the BJP would continue its struggle both on the streets and through democratic institutions to safeguard the interests of the people of the state.
