Shimla 18,2026

Creativity, enterprise and compassion came together at Delhi Public School (DPS), Shimla, as the school hosted Carnival of Joy – School Fête & Exhibition on Sunday. The vibrant celebration brought together students, parents and visitors for a day of learning, entertainment and community engagement, with the participation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and ABHI School for Special Children adding a meaningful dimension of women’s empowerment and social inclusion.

Ms Diviya Kumari, cultural activist from Jubbal and owner of Woodville Palace, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr Anil Walia, Pro Vice-Chairperson, DPS Shimla, and Ms Veena Chauhan, Headmistress, guided the event, reaffirming the school’s commitment to holistic education and nurturing confident, creative and socially responsible individuals.

A major attraction was the art and craft, science and mathematics Exhibition, where students showcased their imagination, ingenuity and practical learning through artistic creations, innovative models and interactive displays. The exhibits demonstrated how classroom concepts can be translated into engaging, hands-on experiences, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving and creative expression among young learners.

The school campus took on a festive atmosphere with food stalls, music, games, entertainment and colourful face painting. Children and families enjoyed the lively celebrations, making the carnival a blend of recreation, experiential learning and community bonding.

Adding to the spirit of empowerment, several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) participated by setting up stalls featuring their products. The initiative provided women with a platform to showcase their skills, promote their products and interact with potential customers, highlighting the importance of grassroots entrepreneurship and financial self-reliance. Their participation reflected how community platforms can help strengthen women-led enterprises while encouraging students to appreciate the value of hard work, innovation and independent livelihoods.

The participation of ABHI School for Special Children further strengthened the inclusive spirit of the event. Its stall featured candles and other handcrafted products made by students, giving visitors an opportunity to appreciate their creativity and support their efforts through purchases. The initiative celebrated the abilities and potential of children with special needs, reinforcing the message that every child deserves dignity, recognition and equal opportunities to participate and excel.

By bringing students, women entrepreneurs and children with special needs together on a common platform, DPS Shimla extended the purpose of the carnival beyond entertainment. The event encouraged greater community interaction and demonstrated how schools can foster awareness, empathy and respect for diverse abilities while creating opportunities for local enterprise.

Carnival of Joy concluded on a cheerful note, celebrating not only the talent and enthusiasm of students but also the values of compassion, empowerment and shared responsibility. The event reinforced the belief that education goes beyond textbooks and examinations, finding its true meaning when creativity inspires learning, opportunities empower individuals and inclusion brings communities together.
