Congress Government Has Turned Filing Cases Against BJP Leaders into a Political Weapon: Rakesh Jamwal

From Dr. Rajeev Bindal and Sukhram Chaudhary to Ashish Sharma and Hoshiyar Singh, BJP Leaders Are Being Targeted to Silence the Opposition
Shimla: BJP Chief Spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal strongly criticized the Congress government, alleging that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led administration has made the registration of criminal cases against opposition leaders a tool of political vendetta. He said that ever since coming to power, the Congress government has consistently targeted BJP leaders, MLAs, and workers through politically motivated FIRs in an attempt to suppress the voice of the opposition.
Jamwal said that BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal and former Minister and MLA Sukhram Chaudhary, along with several BJP leaders, were booked by the Majra Police in Sirmaur district following a public protest. Serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges relating to obstructing public servants, assault on government officials, unlawful assembly, and rioting, were invoked against them. The Himachal Pradesh High Court later granted them anticipatory bail, exposing the politically motivated nature of the case.
He further stated that BJP MLA Ashish Sharma was also targeted through an FIR related to a stone crusher, alleging illegal mining, forgery, cheating, and royalty evasion. Ashish Sharma has consistently maintained that these allegations are politically motivated and aimed at maligning him and weakening the BJP politically.
Jamwal added that Independent MLA Hoshiyar Singh, who has been raising public issues against the Congress government, has also been subjected to legal action in what appears to be another attempt to intimidate political opponents. He said that several BJP leaders and party workers have similarly been booked during protests and agitations, demonstrating a clear pattern of using the police and administration to settle political scores.
“The Congress government has adopted a dangerous pattern—first register FIRs against BJP leaders, then drag them into prolonged legal battles. Instead of addressing the concerns of the people, the government is misusing law enforcement agencies to harass political opponents,” Jamwal said.
He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party will not be intimidated by politically motivated cases. “False FIRs and misuse of state machinery cannot silence the BJP. We will continue to raise the voice of the people and expose the failures of the Congress government. The people of Himachal Pradesh are watching everything and will give a befitting reply at the appropriate time,” he added.
