Instead of Jobs, Sukhu Government Wants to Push People Towards Gambling: Jairam Thakur

Chief Minister should provide employment and self-employment opportunities instead of leaving people to their luck through lotteries: Jairam Thakur

Shimla: The BJP Legislature Party staged a protest in the Assembly premises under the leadership of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, raising slogans against the Sukhu government. The BJP legislators demanded that the government stop promoting drugs, lotteries and gambling and instead provide employment opportunities to the people of the state.

Talking to mediapersons, Jairam Thakur said it was a matter of shame that the Sukhu government was seeking to legally promote a social evil like lottery in the state in the name of increasing revenue. He said lotteries had existed in the state earlier as well, but the previous BJP government had discontinued them because families were being ruined. People were becoming addicted, land and jewellery were being sold, and people’s salaries were being spent on lotteries.

He said it was unfortunate that the government was glorifying such a social evil in the name of increasing the state’s revenue.

Jairam Thakur said the Chief Minister claims that lottery is a matter of luck. “Instead of leaving the people of Himachal to their luck, the government should immediately withdraw this decision and protect them from the evils associated with lotteries and gambling,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said people of the state need jobs and opportunities for self-employment. However, the government, which came to power promising “Vyavastha Parivartan” (systemic change), has completely failed to provide adequate employment and self-employment opportunities.

He said that from the Assembly to the streets, and from government platforms to public meetings, the Chief Minister may have spent his tenure by allegedly misleading people with false claims, but he would now have to answer to the people. “There is no scope for him to escape accountability now. The people of the state are on the streets, and the Bharatiya Janata Party stands with them,” he said.

Jairam Thakur said the youth of Himachal need employment, self-reliance and livelihood-oriented schemes, while needy people require support through welfare schemes. He urged the Chief Minister to focus on implementing public welfare schemes and not push the state into the quagmire of lotteries
