The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shimla district, organised a strong protest against Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge over his allegedly derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father. The demonstration was led by BJP State General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar.
During the protest, BJP workers raised slogans against the Congress leadership and burnt an effigy of the Congress President. A scuffle also broke out between protesters and police personnel.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sikander Kumar strongly condemned the alleged use of insulting language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late parents, describing it as contrary to Indian culture, traditional values and democratic decorum.
He asserted that the BJP would not tolerate such remarks under any circumstances.
“Mallikarjun Kharge is a senior political leader, and we respect his position and experience. However, political differences cannot justify insulting someone’s parents or family members. Such language has no place in public life,” he said.
Dr. Sikander Kumar warned that if the Congress leadership continued using objectionable language, the BJP would organise protests across the country.
He emphasised that political disagreements are natural in a democracy, but personal insults and disrespectful language must never become part of political discourse.
Criticising Congress over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Dr. Sikander Kumar alleged that the party was attempting to mislead the public by repeatedly raising issues concerning the Constitution and alleged vote theft.
He said that the revision of electoral rolls was not a new exercise and that similar processes had been undertaken during previous governments, including Congress-led administrations.
According to him, the purpose of SIR is to update electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible Indian citizen is registered as a voter while entries relating to deceased persons, relocated voters and duplicate registrations are examined according to established procedures.
He stressed that the voting rights of eligible citizens must remain fully protected throughout the exercise.
Questioning the Congress party’s proposed November 1 rally in Delhi, Dr. Sikander Kumar said that if Congress possessed evidence of irregularities in electoral rolls, it should present that evidence before the Election Commission and the appropriate judicial authorities.
He also questioned the Congress party’s historical record, referring to the Emergency and electoral controversies involving former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Dr. Sikander Kumar alleged that Congress had repeatedly questioned democratic institutions whenever their decisions did not align with its political interests.
He maintained that the BJP respects the constitutional role of the Election Commission and supports a transparent, impartial and credible electoral process.
He urged Congress leaders to raise their objections through established legal and constitutional mechanisms rather than making allegations without presenting supporting evidence.
The protest was attended by BJP Shimla District President Keshav Chauhan, Sanjay Sood, Ravi Mehta, State Secretary Tilak Raj, Kusum Sadret, Treasurer Kamaljit Sood, State Media Coordinator Karan Nanda, Co-Coordinator Rama Thakur, Sudeep Mahajan, Ganesh Dutt, Bilal Shah, Rajinder Jinha, Gurmeet Singh, Anita Sood, Sumit Thakur, Dhananjay Puri, Rajinder Chauhan, Prem Chauhan, Sanjeev Sood, Raju Thakur, Gaurav Sharma, Vivek Sharma and Sunil Dhar, along with a large number of BJP workers.
