Rampur (Shimla), October 9: One passenger was killed and more than 10 others injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus overturned near Rai in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district on Friday morning.
The bus was travelling from Sanei towards Rampur with more than 30 people, including the driver and conductor, on board. The accident reportedly occurred when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp bend near Rai, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.
Two passengers reportedly sustained serious head injuries, while several others suffered injuries of varying severity. The bus eventually came to a halt after hitting a cowshed, preventing it from rolling further down towards a gorge and potentially averting a more serious tragedy.
Following the accident, local residents rushed to the spot and launched rescue efforts. They helped evacuate the injured and shifted them to Khaneri Hospital in Rampur in private vehicles for medical treatment.
Police reached the accident site after receiving information and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. The administration is coordinating medical assistance for the injured.
