Vinay Kumar Accuses CEC Gyanesh Kumar of Undermining Democracy, Announces Statewide Protest

Shimla, October 7: Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Vinay Kumar on Tuesday accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of undermining the Constitution and democracy by allegedly working in favour of the BJP. He alleged that more than 13 crore voters had been deprived of their voting rights in the name of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and said the CEC had no moral right to continue in office.

Speaking to mediapersons during a protest outside Lok Bhawan against the arrest of senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Vinay Kumar said the voice of Rahul Gandhi against alleged “vote theft” could not be suppressed. He strongly condemned the arrests and alleged that the Election Commission was functioning as a “puppet of the BJP”.

He said the democratic and constitutional institutions of the country were being weakened and that the Congress stood united under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi to protect democracy. He also announced that the Himachal Pradesh Congress would launch a statewide agitation against alleged vote theft and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Vinay Kumar said AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil would participate in a protest to be held in Una on Wednesday. Similar protests would be organised across all districts under the leadership of district Congress presidents against the BJP and the Election Commission. Senior party leaders have also been assigned responsibilities for the successful conduct of the protests.
