The Youth Red Cross, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla, organized an HIV Awareness and Youth Interaction Programme for the newly inducted undergraduate and postgraduate students on 03 August 2026. The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) as part of its Youth Interaction Campaign which continues to encourage initiatives aimed at promoting health awareness, social responsibility, and holistic student development.
The programme was organized with the objective of sensitizing students to the importance of HIV prevention, informed health choices, and responsible health practices. During the session, participants were introduced to Breakfree India, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, designed to promote awareness, early intervention, and access to reliable health information and services relating to HIV and allied healthcare concerns. Students were also encouraged to utilize the HIV Self-Risk Assessment Tool as a proactive measure towards preventive healthcare and informed decision-making.
The awareness programme included an interactive session on HIV prevention, modes of transmission, testing facilities, and the significance of reducing stigma through awareness and education. A live demonstration of the HIV Self-Risk Assessment Tool was conducted to familiarize participants with its practical utility and accessibility. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, providing students an opportunity to interact with the resource persons and seek clarifications on various aspects of HIV awareness and healthcare services. The Youth Red Cross, HPNLU, reaffirmed its commitment to fostering health awareness, community service, and youth empowerment through such educational initiatives.
