Vande Mataram deserves equal respect, says Anurag Thakur at DAV School’s Independence Day celebration program
New Delhi, August 13, 2026:
Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Singh Thakur on Thursday attended the Independence Day celebration at DAV School, Yusuf Sarai, New Delhi, and interacted with students, teachers and members of the school community.
Addressing the gathering, Thakur urged young Indians to carry forward the spirit of the freedom struggle by embracing Swadeshi, promoting Khadi and giving preference to Indian products. He said Swadeshi was not merely an economic principle but a reflection of national self-confidence and a commitment to strengthening India’s farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs and industries.
He called upon students to make patriotism a part of their everyday lives through discipline, hard work, innovation and service to the nation. He said the youth have a vital role to play in taking India towards greater self-reliance and development.
Thakur also highlighted the enduring significance of Vande Mataram and recalled its important contribution to India’s freedom movement and its deep emotional connect with generations of Indians.
He welcomed the recognition and respect accorded to the National Song, saying that Vande Mataram and the National Anthem represent two equally cherished expressions of India’s national pride and the country’s freedom struggle.
Referring to the legacy of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Thakur said honouring Vande Mataram was also a tribute to the countless freedom fighters who drew inspiration from the song during the struggle for Independence.
He encouraged students to learn from the sacrifices of the freedom movement and contribute through their actions towards building a Viksit, Atmanirbhar and Swabhimani Bharat.
