Factionalism and Internal Conflicts in Congress Exposed; Absence of Chief Minister and State Congress President at Virbhadra Singh’s Statue Unveiling Raises Serious Questions: Dr. Rajeev Bindal

Shimla, October 19, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, while addressing a press conference at the BJP State Headquarters, Deepkamal, Chakkar, said that factionalism and internal contradictions within the Congress party have now become evident.
He alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and other Congress leaders have spent the past four years accusing the BJP of internal divisions to divert public attention from the shortcomings of their own government.
Dr. Bindal said that the absence of the Chief Minister and the State Congress President from the unveiling ceremony of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s statue had raised serious questions about unity within the Congress party.
He stated that Virbhadra Singh was not merely a senior Congress leader but a towering political figure who served as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh several times. His contribution to the state transcended political and factional boundaries.
“The absence of the Chief Minister and the Congress State President from such an important programme, attended by only a select group of leaders, reflects the growing internal contradictions within the Congress,” Dr. Bindal alleged.
Referring to the remarks of former Congress State President and Member of Parliament Pratibha Singh, Dr. Bindal said that she had publicly expressed displeasure over the absence of Virbhadra Singh’s photograph at a programme in Rohru.
He recalled her statement that removing Virbhadra Singh’s photograph could never erase him from the hearts of the people.
According to Dr. Bindal, these remarks were not merely emotional observations but reflected deeper disagreements within the Congress leadership.
“The cat is now out of the bag. Congress leaders should put their own house in order instead of making baseless allegations against the BJP,” he said.
Dr. Bindal further stated that internal dissatisfaction within Congress was not a recent development. He pointed out that six senior Congress leaders had earlier left the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, which, according to him, demonstrated the extent of political differences within the organisation.
He asserted that the BJP remained organisationally united and committed to its objectives.
“The BJP was united, is united and will remain united. Our organisational strength and collective commitment are our greatest assets,” he said.
Criticising the Congress government, Dr. Bindal alleged that the people of Himachal Pradesh had faced considerable difficulties during the past four years. He claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government was increasing and that people were preparing for a decisive political contest.
Highlighting the BJP’s organisational activities, Dr. Bindal informed the media that an important review meeting had been held under the leadership of BJP State In-charge Shrikant Sharma.
The meeting reviewed organisational expansion, booth-level strengthening and upcoming party programmes across Himachal Pradesh.
He stated that the BJP was working towards strengthening its organisation at approximately 8,000 polling booths across the state.
To achieve this objective, 171 experienced party workers have been deployed as Vistaraks across 171 Mandals. These workers are dedicated to strengthening booth-level committees and mobilising grassroots party workers.
Dr. Bindal said that the party aimed to establish a strong team of 50 to 75 workers at every polling booth, ensuring greater organisational coordination and participation.
He further announced that BJP State In-charge Shrikant Sharma would undertake a ten-day organisational tour, beginning from Rampur and continuing through tribal regions before concluding in Bharmour.
He also informed that newly appointed BJP State Co-In-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sudarshana Singh would undertake her second organisational visit to Kangra district from October 25 to 29.
Earlier, Dr. Bindal extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh on the auspicious occasions of Durga Ashtami, Maha Navami and Vijayadashami.
He prayed for the blessings of Goddess Durga upon every resident of the state and expressed the hope that the ideals of Lord Shri Ram would continue to inspire society.
Dr. Bindal concluded by stating that the BJP would continue strengthening its grassroots organisation while raising issues of public concern throughout Himachal Pradesh.
