Hamirpur, August 14, 2026:
A grand Tiranga Yatra led by former Union Minister and MP Anurag Singh Thakur was organised in Hamirpur on Friday, a day ahead of Independence Day, with thousands of Gen-Z participants joining the march with enthusiasm. The city resonated with patriotic fervour as the procession moved from Bhota Chowk to Gandhi Chowk.

BJP Hamirpur district president Rakesh Thakur, MLAs Inderdutt Lakhanpal and Ashish Sharma, former MLAs Rajinder Singh Rana, Vijay Agnihotri, Kamlesh Kumari and Dr Anil Dhiman, besides party office-bearers at the district and mandal levels and a large number of BJP workers, participated in the yatra.

The march reverberated with slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Tirange ke samman mein, Gen-Z maidan mein”. The young participants marched alongside Anurag Thakur, displaying their pride in the national flag and their commitment to the nation. The large participation of youngsters highlighted the strong connect of the younger generation with the Tricolour and the spirit of patriotism.

Addressing the gathering, Anurag Thakur said the national flag is a symbol of India’s freedom, unity and pride and reminds every Indian of the country’s rich cultural diversity and unity.

“Hoisting the Tiranga is a matter of immense pride and honour for every Indian. It is not merely the identity of our nation; it also inspires us to remember our responsibilities towards the country and strengthen the spirit of patriotism,” he said.

Thakur appealed to citizens, particularly the youth, to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by proudly hoisting the national flag at their homes.

He said the campaign was an opportunity for every citizen to express their love for the nation and strengthen the spirit of national unity. He particularly called upon Gen-Z to carry forward the values represented by the Tricolour and contribute actively to nation-building.

Anurag Thakur pays tribute to victims of Partition

On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Thakur paid homage to the courage and resilience of families who suffered during the Partition.

“Millions were rendered homeless, many lost their lives and countless families were forced to rebuild their lives from scratch after losing their fathers, sons, mothers, sisters, daughters and loved ones. Despite unimaginable suffering, these families overcame adversity and contributed significantly to India’s progress,” he said.

Thakur said the courage and resilience of those families must never be forgotten.

“We must resolve that divisive and separatist forces will never be allowed to flourish. We must ensure that the partition of our motherland, our Bharat, never happens again. Together, we must work towards building a developed India by 2047,” he said.

Pays tribute to Captain Vikram Batra

Thakur also remembered Param Vir Chakra awardee and Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra, saying his supreme sacrifice for the honour and pride of the nation would continue to inspire generations.

“Brave sons of India like Captain Vikram Batra made the supreme sacrifice for the honour, dignity and sovereignty of the motherland. Their courage and devotion to the nation are an inspiration for every generation. It is because of the sacrifices of such bravehearts that we are able to proudly hoist the Tricolour today,” Thakur said.

Rahul Gandhi’s language raises questions about his upbringing and values: Anurag Thakur

Speaking to the media after the programme, Anurag Thakur criticised Rahul Gandhi, saying political differences and disagreements are an integral part of democracy, but the language being used by Gandhi was increasingly raising questions about his upbringing and values.

He said it was particularly inappropriate for someone from a family whose women members had held the country’s highest constitutional offices to make an objectionable remark about a woman head of state.

“Political differences are part of democracy, but they cannot be an excuse for using objectionable language against constitutional authorities or women. Public life demands restraint, dignity and respect,” Thakur said.
