Congress Protest Outside the Prime Minister’s Residence Was an Attack on Democratic Norms, Constitutional Order and National Security: Balbir Verma

Over 118 Delhi Police Personnel Injured During Violence; BJP Demands Strict Legal Action, Including Charges of Sedition Against Those Responsible

Shimla: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Himachal Pradesh, today organized a massive protest demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at CTO Chowk, Shimla, condemning the protest staged by Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition leaders, near the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi.

The demonstration was attended by BJP State Vice President Balbir Verma, former Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Rajeev Sehjal, State General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal, State Vice Presidents Vinod Kumar and Rashmidhar Sood, State Secretaries Sanjay Thakur, Kusum Sadret, Pramod Thakur, Prem Thakur, State Media Incharge Karan Nanda, Shimla Urban Assembly candidate Sanjay Sood, Ravi Mehta, K.L. Thakur, Paramjeet Pammi, Chetan Bragta, Purushottam Guleria, Rama Thakur, Sudeep Mahajan, Pyar Singh Kanwar, District President Arun Phalta, Ratan Pal, district office bearers, all Mandal Presidents and a large number of BJP workers.

Addressing the gathering, BJP State Vice President Balbir Verma said that while democracy guarantees every citizen the right to express their views peacefully, no one has the right to challenge the country’s highest constitutional institutions, compromise the security of the Prime Minister, or disrupt law and order under the guise of protest.

He stated that the Prime Minister’s official residence is among the country’s most sensitive security zones, and attempting to stage a protest there without permission is a serious matter of national security. The detention of Congress leaders by the Delhi Police, he said, clearly demonstrates that the law applies equally to everyone.

Balbir Verma alleged that while the Congress party projects itself as the guardian of democracy and the Constitution, it is the first to violate established legal procedures and security protocols whenever it suits its political interests. He remarked that had any ordinary citizen or organization attempted a similar protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence, Congress would have demanded immediate legal action.

Referring to the developments in Delhi, Verma claimed that the protest backed by the Congress eventually turned violent. He said that, according to the Delhi Police, more than 118 police personnel were injured, around 70 protesters were detained, and 15 to 20 government vehicles and public property were damaged, demonstrating that the agitation had crossed the limits of democratic protest and descended into violence.

He added that several senior police officers suffered injuries while performing their duty and emphasized that pelting stones at police personnel, damaging public property and creating unrest can never be justified as democratic dissent.

Balbir Verma further alleged that the Congress party, directly or indirectly, supported elements responsible for disturbing peace in the national capital. He claimed that what was projected as a student-led movement was subsequently influenced by Left-wing organisations and political groups for their own ideological agenda. According to him, students’ genuine concerns should be addressed through dialogue rather than violence and vandalism.

He also stated that questions have repeatedly been raised in public discourse over the years regarding Congress leaders’ alleged links with foreign institutions and external influences. He said that if any credible evidence of foreign funding or anti-national involvement in the Delhi agitation emerges, an impartial investigation should be conducted and strict legal action should follow, adding that national security must remain above politics.

Balbir Verma asserted that Congress leaders incited their supporters, resulting in a deterioration of law and order in Delhi. He demanded the strictest legal action against those involved in attacking police personnel, damaging public property and challenging constitutional institutions, so that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

He concluded by saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party has always upheld peaceful democratic protest but will never tolerate violence, anarchy or any compromise with the nation’s security. The Prime Minister, he said, is not merely the leader of a political party but the Prime Minister of the country, and any compromise with his security amounts to compromising the security of the nation.

Demanding accountability, Verma said that the Congress party should apologise to the people of India for creating an atmosphere that led to injuries to police personnel, damage to public property and disruption of law and order. He urged the authorities to conduct a fair investigation and initiate stringent legal proceedings against all those responsible.
